I often hear that “perfectionism” is virtue of a person. In fact, only a person who is not actually a perfectionist can say this. Perfectionism is a real illness.
Do you know what perfectionism is in reality? It is when you rewrite 50 pages of lectures, because in the end you wrote with a pen of a different color. And during the rewriting you made a mistake on page 10. Then you begin to rewrite the whole thing.
One more example. All of my plates at home are from the same dinnerware set. While washing dishes I found a small split on one of the plates. I threw this plate out. And then I woke up in the middle of the night, went to the kitchen and threw out the rest of the plates, because “the set is not complete now”.
And the last occasion at work: a client sent pictures of outlines, I spent two hours changing all the .JPG or .jpeg images to .jpg.
I can adduce examples till the crack of doom.
Needless to say, I lag all the time?! Because 80% of the time I’m screwing around. I even understand that this is crass stupidity, but I can not help myself. I’m afraid to consult the doctor. And so it is clear that it is one of the symptoms of OCD for sure…
So returning to the beginning … If someone is talking big about his perfectionism, then he is not a perfectionist, but a showoff. Otherwise, he would not have boasted about it…
